Audio and Video Content

There's more than one way to convey your ideas.

  • If you like to speak and write, you can combine the two with podcasting.
  • If you like speaking in person, adding video is a powerful way to expand your reach.
  • If you like to teach, screen-capture video can also convey ideas with your face appearing on-screen.

I have experience with all of these technologies, and I can help implement them on your site.

Audio/Podcasting

Podcasting is an audio form of content distribution, but you need to define the "why" of podcasting for your business before you commit to creating podcasts. Online businesses are using podcasting as an educational tool. Is it appropriate for your business? Let's discuss it, make a plan, and go from there.

You don't need much equipment or software to get started with podcasting, but it does pay to invest in a good microphone if you decide to commit to producing audio and video content for the Internet. I recommend specific products and training offered by my mentor, and I can also train you on your equipment as needed. Once you have sufficient audio content created, we can determine the best method for distributing the content.

Screen Capture Video

Screen-capture video is the process of recording in real-time the activities happening on your computer. This may involve recording demonstrations of software, capturing a PowerPoint presentation or other form of training, or converting full-motion video into Adobe Flash video for uploading to the Internet.

I use Camtasia to produce screen capture videos for my own business. I've produced hundreds of presentations since 2007, so it is specialty of mine. I use a professional microphone for good audio quality, and good editing practices to produce high-quality finished products.

If using a PowerPoint-style presentation would be a good way to communicate your business' unique selling proposition, then screen-capture video would work well for you. I can teach you the finer points of using Camtasia once you've viewed the tutorials provided by the company, or produce Camtasia videos for you based on content you supply. I deliver finished products that include audio narration, and if appropriate, a musical introduction, exit or complete secondary audio track.

Full Motion Video

Full-motion video on websites has become increasingly important as a way for prospective clients to connect with you. You can capture simple and friendly videos of yourself using pocket videocameras like The Flip or a Kodak Zi8, or you can opt for a small camcorder to capture longer videos.

To be useful, video needs to be available on your site as well as being distributed to video websites like YouTube. It must be converted from the format the video cameras use to capture it to Adobe Flash Video: file types .MP4, .SWF, or .FLV, depending on the dimensions and duration.

You can learn to edit your own video using software that costs less than $100. With practice, you can produce simple but effective videos that engage your website and blog visitors, removing some of that perceived "distance" between you and your prospective clients and customers.

I can individually teach you now to edit video, send you to my mentor for training, or you can learn how to edit simple videos in my "I Can Fix My Website" training course. If you prefer, I can take care of editing video for you.
